The Archaeological area of Uxmal is located 62 km south of Mérida, capital of Yucatán state in Mexico.
Uxmal is an ancient Maya city of the classical period in present-day Mexico and it’s buildings are noted for their size and decoration.
It is considered one of the most important archaeological sites of Maya culture, along with Chichen Itza in Mexico; Caracol and Xunantunich in Belize, and Tikal in Guatemala. It is located in the Puuc region and is considered one of the Maya cities most representative of the region’s dominant architectural style. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its significance.

The Maya architecture style called “Puuc” comes from the low hills of Yucatán called the Puuc (“Hills” in English) region, located at the north of Campeche and southwest of Yucatán States. The Puuc style is characterized by the use of well carved stones and the use of light and shadow contrasts in their faҫades.
The Puuc Route are the archaeological areas of Uxmal, Sayíl, Xlapak, Kabah, Muyil Xcal’umkín, Kanki and Edzná.
